( https://gethecticapp.com/nl2?utm_campaign=Onboarding+series+-+February+2026&utm_content=6+-+Contracts+-+2026&utm_medium=email_action&utm_source=customer.io ) Hi Emre - Contracts are like dentists. By the time you realize you don’t have a good one, it’s too late. When it came time to put contract templates in Moxie, we did not: * Download one from RocketLawyer.com. * Google "freelance contract." * Ask an LLM to write it for us. No, we hired a living, breathing contract attorney named Ted. Ted created a smart, airtight, understandable contract we feel good about using with our own freelance businesses. Because friends don't let friends work without a contract. Here are 6 quick things you probably forgot about in a previous contract: * Key term definition. You know what you meant when you said it, but it will never hurt you to explain it like someone is 5. * Revision pricing. Be clear on what revisions are and how many rounds are included in the original price. In just a couple of add-on revision rounds, your Moxie subscription has more than paid for itself. * Delays policy. Life happens. Plans change. Feedback and decisions get punted to next week, then next month. Clients shouldn’t expect you to hit the original deadline after they’ve introduced delays. Make that clear. * No Exclusivity clause. It’s reasonable for a client to not want you to work with a direct competitor, but otherwise, they shouldn’t restrict how you work, with whom, or what services you provide. * Termination. Require written notice for “termination for convenience” and explain how both parties will handle any remaining work or unpaid fees. * Your own rights. In Moxie's built in legal contract, we have Ted's legal language that retains your rights to display your work in your portfolio. I know it doesn't seem like you need this in writing, but you do. ******************************** 66,013 contracts can't be wrong. ******************************** That's how many contracts were sent and signed in the last year with Moxie. Having a reliable written contract is one of the top reasons people find us. Then being able to send that contract over and over again for new clients is why people upgrade and stay with us. Quit risking scope creep because of an ambiguous contract.
