Connecting to the Nylas API is fast. The documentation is clear, the SDKs are solid, and most developers can get a working integration running quickly. That's not the hard part. The hard part is what comes after: navigating Google's OAuth verification process, configuring multi-environment authentication, designing a webhook architecture that holds up under real load, and coordinating the handoffs before you can actually ship. This is the implementation gap - and it's where timelines slip. Provider setup: what you need before you leave the sandbox - Google: Create a GCP project, configure your OAuth consent screen, add your Nylas callback URIs, and start the verification process early. If you're requesting restricted scopes, budget several weeks for Google's security assessment. - Microsoft: Create an Azure app registration, set up your Entra ID permissions, and complete Microsoft publisher verification before going to production. - Both providers: Nylas recommends maintaining separate provider auth apps per environment so you can adjust scopes in development without touching production users.
