What if you didn't have to build an audience before you could reach one?

When you’re just getting started, it can feel like you need to post every day, grow a following, and get people to notice you.

That's the idea behind the Dream 100, a concept Russell learned from Chet Holmes and later expanded with ideas from people like Dana Derricks: a list of the people, shows, publications, and communities that already have the attention of your dream customers.

Say a photographer wants to launch a course for wedding photographers.

She could spend months trying to grow her own audience. Or she could find the podcasts wedding photographers listen to, the creators they follow, and the communities where they talk about their work.

Then she picks one place to start.

Maybe she spends a couple of weeks listening to a podcast, leaving useful comments, and getting to know the host before ever asking for anything.

Then, when there's a natural opportunity, she can reach out about being a guest and bring something useful to that audience.

You don't have to create all the attention yourself.

You can work your way into places where your customers are already gathered.

And while finding 100 places can feel like a lot when you're getting started, you don't have to do it all at once.

Set a timer for 15 minutes and find your first 25.

List 10 podcasts your dream customers listen to, 10 creators they follow, and 5 communities they belong to.

And keep adding to the list as you discover more places your customers spend their time.

Then, start looking for ways to connect with the people behind those audiences and bring something useful to them.

That's how your Dream 100 turns into your first opportunities to get in front of the right people.
