The widest gap we found was not the copy. It was where the popup ran. Popupsmart ( https://popupsmart.com/?utm_source=lifecycle&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=build-data ) Popupsmart Data *************************** What people actually build. *************************** 10,768 campaigns. 499.6 million displays. Five findings you can act on. 10,768 Campaigns analyzed 499.6M Popup displays 0.83% Median lead rate Hi there, We went through 10,768 live campaigns from 4,559 businesses to see what people actually build, which turns out not to be what the advice says they should build. Five findings below, each with the change we would make off the back of it. Finding 1 of 5 4.3x Where you put it beats what it says. ------------------------------------ Lead rate by page Cart and checkout 4.57% Home page 1.07% The widest reliable gap in the whole dataset, and it is a placement decision rather than a copywriting one. Try this Put one campaign on your cart page this week, even if it is a copy of an existing one. Finding 2 of 5 1.9x Most signup popups offer nothing. --------------------------------- Lead rate by offer Signup with a code 1.46% Signup with no code 0.75% Roughly one in ten lead-collecting campaigns includes a discount code. It is the most dependable difference we found in how an offer is built. Try this Add a code to your main signup popup and leave the rest of it alone. Finding 3 of 5 3 The third field is where people leave. -------------------------------------- Lead rate by number of form fields 1 field 0.88% 2 fields 0.94% 3 fields 0.56% The drop at three fields held in every year of data, so the cost of that extra question is real rather than a quirk of one busy quarter. Try this Count the fields on your best campaign. If there are three, remove one. Finding 4 of 5 4x Most campaigns are shown to everybody. -------------------------------------- Lead rate by number of targeting rules 3 rules 1.09% 0 or 1 rule 0.71% Four times as many campaigns run barely targeted as run with three rules. Marketers who target carefully may write better offers too, so treat it as a habit worth copying rather than a switch to flip. Try this Open the Segment step on one campaign and add a single rule. Finding 5 of 5 3.6x The second showing is free. The third is not. ---------------------------------------- Lead rate by how many times the visitor has already seen it 1st view 1.33% 2nd view 1.22% 3rd view 0.98% 6th view 0.62% 10th or more 0.36% Showing the same visitor the same popup a second time costs nothing measurable. From the third view on you are mostly buying displays that will not convert. Try this Cap frequency at two showings per visitor per week. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How we counted 10,768 campaigns from 4,559 businesses, January 2024 to September 2026, each with at least 1,000 displays and 14 active days. 46.3 million bot displays were removed first. Every rate is a per-campaign median, so one large site cannot carry the result. A lead means a submission containing an email address or a phone number. These are correlations, not proof of cause, and we only report differences that survived our robustness tests. Everything here is aggregate. No individual store, account, campaign or domain appears anywhere in this report, and every figure covers hundreds of campaigns from hundreds of separate businesses. ------------------------ Now go look at your own. ------------------------ Here is the whole range. Find your own rate, then fix whichever of the five is cheapest for you.
