Q: Why do I have to install code into my product to use Pendo Free?

Pendo Free captures product usage data and lets you communicate in-app to onboard, educate, and guide users to value. Pendo tagging and guides are codeless—no engineering resources are required. However, we need engineers to install the agent and initialize Pendo.

Our agent is the only technical piece of the initial Pendo installation. Once the agent is properly installed, it tracks a visitor’s events, like page loads and feature clicks, loads guides, and captures session metadata.

Q: Can I track anonymous visitors?

Yes, anonymous visitors are those who don’t login to your app. If you have anonymous visitors and would like to see their data and want them to see the guides you create, an admin can enable both in subscription settings. Just click here or go to settings in the bottom left of the app, and click on Subscription Settings, then check the box next to “Show Anonymous Visitor Data.” You will also see an option to show guides to anonymous visitors here.

Q: How do I send metadata to Pendo?

You’ll want to add any variables to your Pendo snippet under the visitor
