Top Story From Canva to Campaign: The AI-Powered Workflow That Turns Designs Into Deliverable Emails Your Email Design Is Probably Broken on Mobile (And You Don't Even Know It) Natalie Slyman Written by Natalie Slyman Content Marketing Manager You designed a gorgeous email in Canva. Now what? If you're exporting it as one giant image and calling it done, you're tanking your deliverability, losing tracking data, and creating a terrible mobile experience. Here's the workflow that bridges the gap between visual design and actual email execution. No coding required. This story is based on insights from our recent deep-dive article on transforming Canva graphics into HTML emails that actually work. Why your single-image email strategy is sabotaging your results Deliverability takes a hit. Spam filters flag image-only emails because they create a 100% image-to-0 % text ratio, a red flag that screams "promotional content." Your carefully crafted design might never reach the inbox. Images are blocked by default. Most email clients don't automatically display images, which means subscribers see a blank rectangle with an "X" instead of your beautiful design. Not exactly compelling. You lose all tracking capabilities. When your entire email is one image, you can't track which links get clicked or measure engagement beyond basic opens (which are increasingly unreliable anyway). Mobile rendering becomes a nightmare. A single 600px-wide image doesn't adapt to smaller screens. It just shrinks everything into illegibility. As Jessica Lunk, VP of Growth Marketing, puts it: "Canva handles the visual design. HTML handles the email structure. These are separate, and the workflow connects them." The three-step workflow that makes Canva designs email-ready: 1. Design with email structure in mind from the start. Set your Canva canvas to 600px wide, the standard email width that ensures compatibility across email clients. Design in separable horizontal sections: header, hero image, text blocks, CTA button, and footer. Think of each section as a building block that will become its own HTML element. Export strategically. Use JPG for photos and full-color graphics (smaller file size), PNG for logos and icons with transparent backgrounds. Resize before export. Hero images should be no wider than 1200px (2x for retina displays). 2. Host your images and get public URLs. This is the step most marketers miss. Email HTML doesn't embed images as a Word document does. Images need public URLs from your website, Google Drive (set to "anyone with the link can view"), or free hosting services like Imgur. Without this step, your images won't appear in the final email. 3. Use AI to generate email-safe HTML code. Provide plain-language descriptions to an AI tool with these specifics: * Request "table-based layout with inline CSS" (the email-compatible format) * List your hosted image URLs * Describe sections in top-to-bottom order * Include styling details: brand colors, fonts, padding, border radius for buttons The AI generates production-ready code you can paste directly into Benchmark Email's HTML editor.
